JOHN HENRY ROLFFS was born in Hanover, Germany, May 25, 1843, son of John and Kate (Von Bastel) Rolffs, and of German lineage. The parents of Mr. Rolffs were both born in Germany. Our subject’s father was a soldier in the battle of Waterloo under Wellington. The Rolffs family came to America about 1850, landing at New Orleans, and came by river to Nashville, where the parents of our subject died. He is the eighth of nine children, was reared in the city of Nashville and attended the schools there. In 1859 he began working as an apprentice at the tinner’s trade and worked at this for some time. In 1866 he came to Franklin and engaged in the house-furnishing business, which he has followed nearly ever since. In 1871 he led to the hymeneal altar Miss Mary Jane Pugh, of Franklin, though a native of New York City, and to this union was born one child, Anna Pugh. Mr. Rolffs is a Democrat and a Mason (Knight Templar). He is one of the oldest merchants of Franklin and also one of the most successful.
