Mansfield was the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder when she wrote the Little House On The Prairie series of books, published between 1932 and 1943. The Wilder's moved from De Smet, South Dakota to Mansfield in 1894 and lived for a number of years within the city of Mansfield. About 1910, they moved less than a mile from Mansfield to a farm they called Rocky Ridge Farm and it was while living on this farm that the Little House On The Prairie book series was written. Laura's husband Almanzo died on the farm in 1949 at the age of 92; Laura also died here on February 10, 1957 at the age 90. Both Laura and Almanzo are buried in the Mansfield Cemetery. The Wilder home at Rocky Ridge Farm is now home to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and Museum and open to the public for tours.
