SAMUEL R. STONE, farmer, was born in Fayette County, Ky., July 21, 1827, and is a son of John and Mary (Berry) Stone, both natives of Kentucky. The father was an extensive farmer, owning at his death 1,200 acres of as good land as Kentucky affords, to be divided among his children. His death occurred in 1872, and the mother followed in the same year. Our subject assisted on the farm until he was twenty-one years of age, securing a good education in the common schools. He then began farming for himself in Kentucky until 1884, when he removed to this county, renting his Kentucky land. He purchased the Cooper farm of 537 acres, on which he has been steadily engaged ever since. In 1854 he wedded Mary Marshall, native of Kentucky, and they have five children by this union: Walker J., William, Birdie, Samuel and Jessie. Mr. Stone is a Democrat in politics, and himself and family are members of the Christian Church.
