Boston, Massachusetts, Boston Massacre or Crispus Attucks Monument, vintage postcard, photo

The Boston Massacre or Crispus Attucks Monument located on the Boston Common near Tremont Street, Boston, Massachusetts. The monument was erected in 1888 in honor of the five victims of the Boston Massacre which took place on March 5, 1770. Near the top of the column are the names of those killed: Crispus Attucks, Samuel Maverick, James Caldwell, Samuel Gray and Patrick Carr. The 25 foot tall granite monument bears a bronze representation of Lady Liberty, holding the broken chains of tyranny high in the air. Under her foot is the crown of the defeated British Empire. An bronze plaque inset at the base is a representation of the massacre made famous at the time of the event by an engraving by Paul Revere. This postcard view is dated 1904.
