Cleveland, Ohio, The Cleveland Grays Armory Building, 1900-06, historic photo

An historic photo view of the Cleveland Grays Armory Building, Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland Grays were a private military group founded in 1837. The stone above the doorway reads "Cleveland Grays". A stone set between the windows at the right of the doorway reads "1837-1893". The primary purpose of the building was for the storage of weapons and as a site to conduct training drills. The building has also served as a site for community social events. The banner on the building advertises one such event: "Grays - The XV Century Morality Play Everyman acted by the English Company under the direction of Ben Greet." The building is still standing and currently houses The Cleveland Grays Military Museum.

This photo is by Detroit Publishing Co., about 1900-06.
