John M. Bright was born at Troy, Tenn., January 17, 1849. His father and mother were natives of Virginia and Tennessee, respectively. The former is still living; the latter died about twenty-six years ago. John M. is the second of their four children. Until the age of nineteen he resided and worked on his father’s farm. The following three and a half years were spent in the Lone Star State, and while there was shot in the right leg, disabling him from work for about three years. Since 1874 he has been engaged in agricultural pursuits, and is a man of good standing in his community. He is a Mason, Lodge No. 88, and a Democrat and Prohibitionist. November 1880 witnessed his marriage to Anna Farris, who is the mother of three children: William, Charles and Fortune.
