A. Weber, an enterprising merchant of Hickory Withe, Fayette County, was born in March, 1841, in Shelby County, Tenn., and is of a family of two sons and two daughters born to N. and Catharine Weber, our subject and one sister being the only surviving members. The parents were born and married in Germany, and soon after marriage came to America and located at Memphis, where the father was a house carpenter. The mother died in 1848, and in 1850 the father married again; the last wife is still living; he died September 28, 1855. Our subject remained at home until the war, when he entered the Confederate service in the Fifteenth Tennessee Infantry, with which he served as drum major until the war closed, participating in the Georgia campaign and the battles of Belmont, Shiloh, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge and many others. After the war Mr. Weber returned to Memphis, but July 1, 1865, he commenced merchandising at Hickory Withe, under the firm name of A. Weber & Co., until 1869, when the firm name became Weber &Wilson until 1873, then changed to Weber & Ivy from 1873 until 1885, when the present partnership of A. Weber and B. H. Bone was formed. They carry a most complete stock of general merchandise, valued at $6,000. They have recently built a large and handsomely furnished storehouse, being the best in the county. In November, 1866, Mr. Weber married M. F. Ivy, a native of Fayette County; three sons and seven daughters have been born to them, of whom two daughters died in infancy. The names of the children are William A., Clara E., John A., Elizabeth and Isadora (twins), Fannie and Anna (twins, deceased), May and Clara. Mr. Weber is a Cumberland Presbyterian, and in politics a Democrat. He is a useful and highly esteemed citizen of Fayette County.
