W. W. Whitaker is a Madison County Tennessean, born in October, 1832, son of David and Mary Ann C. (Cavinall) Whitaker, who were born in Wake County, N. He was elected chairman of the county court in 1880, and served four years. January 7, 1862, he married Kate M. Crichlow, and their union resulted in the birth of seven children: Laura H. (Mrs. D. H. Moody), Julia (deceased), Clayton M., David W., Joseph and Benjamin (twins), and Wesley Willis. Mr. Whitaker has been fairly successful through life, and is now worth about $10,000.
