WILSON McCANDLESS, president Allegheny National Bank, was born at Hanging Rock, Ohio, Aug. 22, 1840. His great-grandfather emigrated from Scotland, and his grandfather and father, both named William, were natives of this country. The latter came to Pittsburgh early in 1841, and was a prominent member of the Allegheny county bar. He died in 1858. Wilson received his education at the private schools of Dr. Black and Griggs & Veeder, and at the Western University. He began commercial life as a clerk for Alex. Gordon, a commission merchant. (See sketch elsewhere.) In 1857 he entered the Allegheny National Bank as clerk, and has ever since been connected with that institution, in various capacities, having been president since 1883. Mr. McCandless attends Trinity P. E. Church, and is a republican. In 1862 he married Miss Aphia, daughter of Thomas Hamilton, a well-known Pittsburgh attorney, and they have two sons, Thomas Hamilton and Wilson.
