WILLIAM O’BRYON insurance agent, McKeesport, was born in Garrett county, Md., March 26, 1853, of Irish and German descent. At the age of ten he was thrown on his own resources, and became an errand-boy in a store in his native state. At the age of twelve he came to McKeesport, and engaged as a scrap-pounder in an iron-mill, at twenty-five cents per day. In 1867 he entered the store of J. P. Learn & Co., in a subordinate capacity. In 1869 he became a salesman in this, store, and remained until 1871, when he began business as a merchant on his own account. In 1874 he left the mercantile business and became an insurance agent in McKeesport. In 1876 he became the general manager, in Pittsburgh, of an eastern life and accident-insurance company, which position he still occupies. Mr. O’Bryon married, June 22, 1870, Minnie Van Kirk, of McKeesport, and they have had five children, of whom four are living.
