SAMUEL ALEXANDER, P. O. Bridgeville, was born in 1838, the youngest son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Hanna) Alexander, and named in honor of his uncle. He was born and reared on a farm, and received his education at the public schools and at the normal school of Mansfield. From Aug. 22, 1862, until the close of the rebellion, Mr. Alexander was a soldier in the service of his country. He enlisted in Co. D, 149th P. V. I., and was in the principal battles in which his regiment participated, among which maybe mentioned Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, etc. Mr. Alexander married, in 1866, Martha L., daughter of Ebenezer and Margaret (Brown) Nesbitt. Mr. Alexander is recognized as one of South Fayette’s representative citizens. He has been a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church; politically he is a republican.
