JOHN BOWER, retired farmer, post office Brinton, is a native of this county, born near the present town of Wilkinsburg, in 1806, only son of Abraham and Effie (Curdy) Bower, former of whom, born of German parents, came from Lancaster county, Pa. John, the subject of this sketch, remained at the place of his birth until 1844, in which year he came to his present farm of eighty-four acres, which he had purchased, and here he has since resided, now retired from active life. He married Elizabeth, daughter of James McKelvy, and by her had eight children, five now living: Eva Ann (Mrs. Baker), James, Elizabeth (Mrs. More), John, Jr., and Abraham. The sons, since Mr. Bower’s retirement, have had charge of the farm.
