Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. HENRY WOLFE, farmer, post office Glenfield, was born Oct. 30, 1811, in East End, Pittsburgh, Pa. The paternal grandfather was a native of Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, and when he was fifteen years of age his parents died at sea. He and two brothers came to America. One settled in Lebanon county, Pa., another in East Pennsylvania and the third in Ohio. The grandfather of Henry, a Lutheran minister, came to this county in 1796, and preached the gospel in Pittsburgh and vicinity until his death, which occurred when he had attained a good old age. He was the father of five children. Jacob, the father of Henry, was born in Lebanon county, where he was reared. He married Catherine Meyer, and to them were born children as follows: George, Samuel, Mrs. Elizabeth Mackerel, Mrs. Margaret Stoner, Henry and Joseph. Henry’s father was a general and an able mechanic; he died in 1843, aged sixty-nine years. Henry was a merchant-tailor in Pittsburgh until 1862, when he purchased a farm of thirty-two acres. He was married twice, his first wife being Martha Marshal; his second wife was Margaret, daughter of Thomas Barnes and Jane Boyd. This marriage was blessed by seven children: Thomas B., Jennie, Milton, Charles, Sherman, William H. and Madison. Milton died by an accident Aug. 21, 1885, when aged twenty years. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe are members of the M. E. Church; he is a republican.
