Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. DAVID HERBERTSON, chief engineer National Tube-works, McKeesport, was born in Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland, Aug. 12, 1841, a son of Thomas and Margaret (Rutherford) Herbertson. He was reared and educated in his native land, and served an apprenticeship of five years at the millwright’s trade; also at engineering. For many years he was engineer on the Inman line of passenger steamers plying between New York and Liverpool. Mr. Herbertson settled in McKeesport in 1880, where for four years he worked as a machinist in the National Tube-works, and since 1884 he has held his present position with the same company. His wife was Agnes, daughter of James and Mary (Caven) McLean, of Dumfriesshire, Scotland, and by her he has six children living: Mary, Thomas, James, Robert, David R. and Agnes I. Mr. Herbertson is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, of the K. of H., and Caledonia club; he is a republican.
