Below is a family biography included in The History of Brown County, Ohio published by W. H. Beers & Co. in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. WILLIAM R. FLAUGHER, farmer, P. O. Ripley, was born where he now lives, in 1823, and is a son of Adam and Allie (Riggs) Flaugher. Adam Flaugher was a son of Adam, Sr.; Allie Riggs was a daughter of John Riggs, one of the early settlers in Mason County, Ky., having planted the first apple tree in Mason County; he afterward located in this county, where he died in 1827, aged eighty-seven years. Adam, Jr., was one of the first settlers in this county. He served in the war of 1812, and had nine children, six of whom are living, viz.: Susan, Catherine, Rachel, Maria, Jacob and William R. The deceased are Henry, Martin and Zachariah. Mr. Flaugher died in 1859, aged eighty-three years; his wife was born in 1779, and died in 1864. Our subject was married to Parthena, the daughter of Jacob Wilson, in 1849. To them have been born ten children, viz.: Ephriam, Rufus, Emily, Wadey, Allie, Matilda, Sylvanus K., William M., Jesse and Mary B. Mr. Flaugher owns 185 acres of land, well improved; he is a member of the order of Odd Fellows and also of the Christian Church.
