James McMahan was born in Wright County, Mo., on the 21st of September, 1859, and is a son of William T. McMahan, whose sketch appears in this work. He grew to manhood in his native county, and from early boyhood was reared on a farm, becoming skilled in the duties of farm labor, and received a good practical education in the common schools of Webster County. He made the paternal roof his home until after he attained his majority, when he was married in this county on the 30th of August, 1881, to Eva A. Trimble, a daughter of Rev. A. D. and M. E. Trimble, who were formerly from Tennessee. Mrs. McMahan was born, reared and educated in that State, being a graduate of Mary Sharp College, of Winchester, Tenn. Previous to her marriage she spent a number of years as a teacher of instrumental music, and after that event located with her husband on their farm of 160 acres in Webster County, Mo.; 130 acres are under cultivation and furnished with good buildings and a young orchard, which promises to supply them with plenty of fruit. They have one daughter, Rosa Lee, a miss of six years. Mrs. McMahan is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Her father was a minister of that denomination, but is now deceased. Her mother re-married, and is now residing in Springfield, Mo.
