Scott Ferris, of English descent, was born in the town of Mount Morris, Livingston Co., N. Y., in the year 1842. His father, Lewis G. Scott Ferris received a good commonschool education, lived on a farm in Nunda, Livingston Co., N.Y., till the age of twenty-five, when he married Annie M. Thorp, of Granger, Allegany Co.. N. Y., and moved to Southwest Missouri in the winter of 1866-67, where he took a homestead of eighty acres, three miles south of Neosho, the county seat of Newton County, and has since added 200 acres to his farm. Four children bless their home: Thomas, Elizabeth, Scott and Harriett. Mr. Ferris and wife have always taken a lively interest in public affairs, and both are warm Prohibitionists.
