Below is a family biography included in The History of Newton County, Missouri published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1888.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Ishmael Earley was born and reared in Tennessee. He carried on a tannery in Georgia until 1853, at which time he came to Missouri and established a tannery and manufactured leather, harness, saddles, boots and shoes at Neosho. In 1855 he returned to Georgia, and married Mary A. Raber, then returned to his home in Missouri, and continued his business for several years. He then went on a farm near Neosho, where he stayed until the war, when he enlisted in the Missouri Home Guards stationed at Newtonia, under Capt. Ritchey. He died at Newtonia in 1863 of pneumonia fever. He was the father of five children: Victoria (Mrs. Charles Webster), Edwin N., Walter W., Nannie and John I. Walter W. Earley is a traveling salesman for a St. Louis house; John I. Earley is book-keeper for the Neosho Planing Mills and Lumber Yards; Edwin N. Earley was born and reared in Newton County, and has for the past fifteen years and is still manufacturing and selling harness, saddles and all kinds of horse goods. He commenced in business with a side of leather and a few buckles, and today he has the largest stock and best trade of any harness establishment in Newton County. Before he learned his trade, he clerked in a grocery store, was carrier for the Neosho Times and set type in the same office one year. He has been successful in his business, and has hosts of friends; was married July 20, 1883, to Lula Phariss; he has two children living, one dead.
