Benjamin Ainsworth, farmer, Marion Township, Newton Co., Mo., was born in Warren County, N. Y., May 7, 1832, and is the son of William and Lucy (Newton) Ainsworth, both natives of Rhode Island. Benjamin was reared on a farm in his native State, and then came to Missouri. During the late war he enlisted in the Forty-fourth Missouri Infantry, and participated in the battles of Franklin, Nashville and others of less importance. He came to Newton County, Mo., in 1868, and now owns a good farm of 100 acres. He married, in 1871, Miss Emily Layton, who was born in Tennessee, the daughter of William and Melvina (Brily) Layton, the former also a native of Tennessee. Her parents came to Newton County, Mo., in 1855, and were much respected citizens; the father died in 1868, the mother is still living in comparatively good health. The result of Mr. Ainsworth’s marriage has been the birth of three children: Orin, born in 1873; Eliza, born in 1875, and Elbert, born in 1877.
