Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

CHRISTIAN H. WIMAN is a native of Graves County, this State, born April 14, 1841, to Milton S. and Elizabeth (Thorpe) Wiman, both of whom were Kentuckians by birth. The father was one of the pioneer Baptist preachers of the Purchase, but gave some attention also to farming pursuits. He was a son of Adam Wiman, of this State, who served in the war of 1812, and whose ancestors were from Germany. The parents of our subject were blessed with fifteen children, of whom twelve survive: Charles A., William T., Milton S., Isaac N., Mary E., C. H., Sarah, Ann J., Hardeman P., James H., Thomas D. and Eliza J. C. H., the subject of this sketch, engaged in farming in his native county in early life, and during his residence in this county has followed farming pursuits and general trading in stock, etc. During two years of the late war, he sold goods in the Federal Army. In 1870 he removed to Illinois, and was the post master at Brooklyn eight years, and also a justice of the peace, afterward returning to McCracken County. He married Miss Angia Lynn, a daughter of Joseph Lynn. Five children of this union are now living: Eva (wife of Joseph Sheets), Maud, Harry H., E. Clarence and Gracie.
