Samuel R. Seay was born December 10, 1827, in Washington County, Ky., and came with his parents, in 1834, to Hickman County, where he has since resided. In youth he secured a moderate education, and engaged in teaching. He was married December 10, 1850, to Miss Martha F., daughter of Joseph and Rhoda (Riggs) Hughes of Graves County and to them have been born Joseph J., Annie E., Mary L., Laura B., Samuel H., George W., Rhoda, Lillian, Felix G. and Maurice A. Subject is a farmer, owning 590 acres of good land, well-improved and highly cultivated, in this district, and also 595 acres of valuable land in Florida, where he spends his winters. On this land he has two orange groves. He is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
