Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

I. C. WHAYNE was born June 7, 1811, in Louisville, Ky. He is a son of Isaac and Mollie (Jones) Whayne. The father was born in Virginia, came to Jefferson County in 1808, and in 1816 removed to Daviess County, where he was engaged in farming, butchering, brick-making and was also tobacco inspector; he died in July, 1833, aged sixty. Our subject was reared on his father’s farm, and in 1832 commenced farming on his own account in Daviess County; in 1849 he moved to Ballard County; in 1851 he moved to Clinton, and in the fall of 1852 returned to Ballard County; carried on his farming there until 1856, then bought a farm in Hickman County, and there lived till December, 1883, when he came to Clinton, where he now resides. Mr. Whayne was married in 1832 to H. E. Pointer; she was born in Halifax County, Va., in 1815; these parents have had ten children, five now living—four sons and one daughter. Mr. Whayne was postmaster several years when on his farm.
