Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM W. MEADOWS, Fulton County, was born May 4, 1846, in Dickson County, Tenn., and is a son of Ephraim G. and Jane (Thompson) Meadows, natives of North Carolina and Virginia respectively. Subject is the sixth of eight children—four sons and four daughters. The mother died in 1880, aged seventy years. The father is still living in Weakley County, Tenn. Subject was reared on a farm and attended school until the breaking out of the war, when he turned his attention to trading; at the close of the war, he attended the Bryant & Stratton Commercial College, from which institution he graduated in the class of 1871. He engaged in merchandising at Gardner, Tenn., and in March, 1873, came to Fulton, Ky., where he engaged in mercantile business. He has also followed cotton and tobacco trading quite extensively, and has met with good success. He owns a half interest in the store of Fall & Meadows, besides a block of stores, houses and lots, 100 acres in farming land, besides various kinds of machinery, all of which he has acquired by his own industry. March 12, 1878, Mr. Meadows was married to Miss Jodie Beard, a native of Louisiana, and a daughter of Rev. Thomas L. and Elizabeth Beard. Her father was of Welsh descent and was born in North Carolina. He came to Tennessee in an early day, where he was, for many years, a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The result of this union is one child, Paul C. Mr. and Mrs. Meadows are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and K. of H. fraternities. He is one of the directors of the bank of Fulton, and has been a councilman of Fulton for many years.
