Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

W. C. TUPMAN was born in Kenton County, Ky., June 9, 1850, and is a son of Francis and Margaret (Davidson) Tupman. Francis Tupman settled in Kenton County, Ky., in 1828, where he engaged in farming, and served as deputy sheriff of that county six terms. The paternal grandfather of our subject was Col. John Tupman, of Virginia, who served in the war of 1812. He married a Miss Ferris, also of Virginia. W. C. Tupman was educated in the schools of Cincinnati, and graduated at the Ohio Medical College. In 1886 he opened a drug store in Covington, Ky., and has a large trade. In 1872 he married Jeannetta V. Martin, daughter of Charles T. Martin and Almira (Foster) Martin; the former is the secretary of the city gas company. Two children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Tupman, viz.: Paul and Marguerite. Mr. Tupman is a member of the Masonic lodge, is a Knight of Honor, a member of the A. O. U. W., and in religion is a Methodist.
