My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WESLEY HOGGINS was born in Bourbon County, Ky., May 16, 1810. His father, Solomon Hoggins, was a native of Maryland, who settled near where Paris, Ky., now stands, and reared eight children, of whom two only are now living: Wesley and Mrs. Delia Kirby, of Warsaw, Ky. Wesley Hoggins, was reared a farmer, and lived in Bourbon County until 1848, when he removed to Kenton County, and thence, in 1868, to Florence, Boone County, where he still resides, and owns two fine farms of upward of 550 acres within the county limits. In 1836 he married Rebecca Shawan, a daughter of Joseph and Sarah Shawan of Harrison County. To this union twelve children have been born, of whom one died in infancy, and one at the age of thirty-three years. The names of the surviving ten are as follows: Sarah, Mary (now Mrs. Graves), Bettie, Ann (now Mrs. Givens), B. F., John, Henry, Emma (now Mrs. Tucker), Fannie and Minnie. Mrs. Hoggins died in 1876 at the age of sixty years. Mr. Hoggins is now and has always been a stanch Democrat.
