Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

RIDDELL & HALL, editors and proprietors of the Boone County Recorder. W. L. RIDDELL was born in Boone County, Ky., July 25, 1848. His father was John Riddell, a native of Virginia, and a son of William Riddell. John Riddell was born in 1804 and died in 1865; he was a farmer by occupation and a Mason. He married Florenda McKay, of Kenton County, whose ancestors were from Pennsylvania. Mr. Riddell was reared on a farm, and at the age of nineteen began teaching school, which occupation he followed three years, then served as county clerk one year, and afterward as deputy sheriff for two years. He then engaged in the retail grocery business for three years, and in 1875 he began publishing the Boone County Recorder, he being one of the founders of that paper, which is now the only official paper in the county, and has a circulation of 750. He was elected circuit clerk in 1880, and re-elected in 1886, which position he still holds. In 1880 he married Miss Carrie Pace, daughter of Robert Pace, of Kenton County. Mrs. Riddell was born in 1853, and is a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Riddell is a member of the Masonic lodge and of the I. O. O. F., and is a leading spirit in all enterprises that affect the good of his community.
