Below is a family biography included in History of Union County, Iowa published by S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., in 1908.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Frederic W. Ide, junior partner of the well known firm of George A. Ide & Son, has been, since receiving his degree of A. B. from the Kansas State University in 1901, engaged in active business of the firm who are at present among the leading investment brokers, real-estate and insurance men of southwestern Iowa. Born in Grant township, Union county, in 1877, he is of New England parentage, his father and mother being natives of Massachusetts. His father, George A. Ide, is a direct descendant of Roger Williams and his mother’s ancestors were of Revolutionary stock. He spent his early years on his father’s farm and regularly attended district school. He afterward devoted one year to study in Providence, Rhode Island, was graduated from the Creston high school and completed a four years’ university course at Lawrence, Kansas. Since that time he has given considerable attention to the study of both vocal and instrumental music and is always popular in musical circles of Creston, his tenor voice and his affability causing him to be in demand by all classes.

Mr. Ide is recognized as one of the successful business men of the county, owning both city and farm property, and in his business deals shows excellent judgment. He is a member of the Congregational church, is public spirited and interested in the welfare of this city and commands the trust and confidence of those with whom he is associated. He is a prominent member of the Masonic order, having held the office of secretary of Crest City Lodge, No. 522, A. F. & A. M., for several years, beside important offices in Al Gabil Chapter, No. 121, R. A. M., and Bethany Commandery, No. 29, K. T. He is at present serving his third year as worthy patron of Vesta Chapter, No. 33, O. E. S., and is also a member of Kaaba Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., of Davenport, Iowa. Mr. Ide is, moreover, regarded as one of the most enterprising citizens of Creston and is a most worthy representative of an honored pioneer family.
