Kearney, Missouri, Jesse James, tombstone and grave photo

A photo of the grave and tombstone of the outlaw, Jesse James and his wife Zerelda James.

After the assassination of Jesse James by fellow gang member Bob Ford in 1882 at St. Joseph, Missouri, his body was brought to the James family farm home near Kearney, Missouri and buried in the yard near the house. His body was later removed in 1902 to the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kearney, Missouri be buried next to his wife, Zerelda Mimms James who had died in 1900. In 1995, his body was exhumed for DNA testing which proved with a high degree of certainty that this was in fact the remains of Jesse James and not of an imposter as some have claimed.

Kearney is in Clay County, Missouri.
