Below is a family biography included in The History of Warren County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. E. M. Reams, editor of the Southern Standard, was born at Spring Hill, Maury County, June 20, 1857, a son of Joshua M. and Hattie (Haley) Beams. When eleven years old Mr. Reams went to Tuscumbia, Ala., and served three years’ apprenticeship in the printing office of the North Alabamian. In the summer of 1876 he came to McMinnville, Tenn., and worked for six years in the New Era office, and was joint publisher of that paper with Mr. D. F. Wallace during the year 1880. In the fall of 1882 he, in partnership with Dr. J. B. Ritchey and H. P.Newton, purchased the Southern Standard, and under the style of the Standard Publishing Company they published this paper until the spring of 1884, when Mr. Reams purchased his partners’ interests and has since been sole editor and proprietor of this journal. The Southern Standard is purely Democratic. It is one of the leading papers in this section of the country and has a large circulation. Mr. Reams is a member of the Presbyterian Church.
