Below is a family biography included in The History of Obion County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Samuel Agnew was born on the 23d of March, 1824, in Maury County, Tenn., and is the only surviving member of a family of six children born to William and Eupha (Agnew) Agnew, both of whom were Tennesseans. They were married in Maury County, and there resided until the father’s death, in 1843. The mother then came to Obion County, where she died, in 1846. Our subject remained with his parents until their deaths. He then worked at the carpenter’s trade until about 1858, following farming part of the time also. In 1853 he married Elizabeth Sinkler, who was born in Obion County. They have had nine children, eight of whom are still living. In 1855 he began farming near Troy, in Obion County, and there resided until 1869, then spent one year in Missouri. He then returned home, and located on the farm where he now resides. He owns 116 acres of land near Rives, and has a tract of fifty-nine acres in another portion of the county. He gives the most of his attention to cultivating the cereals.
