SAMUEL HAYNIE, farmer, was born in Bedford County, in 1833, and remained at home until he was twenty-five years of age. He received a fair education in the neighboring schools, and December 20, 1856, led to the altar Anna Moore, a native of Lincoln County, Tenn., born June, 1832, and the daughter of Andrew and Rachel Moore. The union of our subject and wife resulted in the birth of ten children, seven of whom are living: Samuel J., Robert H., Mary J., Hugh L., Thomas J. J., Anna L. and Emma L. Mr. Haynie resides on the old home-place, which now consists of 302 acres under a good state of cultivation. In 1863 he enlisted in Company D, Eighth Tennessee, and took an active part in the battle of Murfreesboro. He was in the retreat toward the south, and soon after returned home and resumed farming. Mr. Haynie taught school several terms before marriage and also several after marriage. He is a life-long Democrat in politics. Our subject’s parents, James and Elizabeth (Bailey) Haynie, were married about 1830. The father was born May 18, 1810, and was of Scotch-Irish descent. He was a farmer by occupation, but, being a natural genius, could manufacture or repair nearly all kinds of machinery. He died in 1878. The mother of our subject was born in North Carolina and died in 1882.
