Theodore D. Vaughn, farmer and native of the county in which he resides, was born in 1840, son of Thomas and Mary A. Vaughn, who were Tennesseans by birth and died in 1863 and 1862, respectively. Our subject was reared on his parents’ farm, and resided with them until 1861, when he entered the Confederate service and participated in the battle of Fort Donelson. He was there captured and taken to Camp Douglas, where he was retained six months and was then taken to Vicksburg and exchanged. Here the company reorganized and took an active part in the battle of Chickasaw Bayou and was in several other engagements, the most noted of which was Murfreesboro. On Hood’s retirement from Tennessee Mr. Vaughn gave up army life and has since been a tiller of the soil. In 1876 he purchased his farm of 100 acres, on which he raises principally corn and cotton. In 1866 Araminta T. Hail became his wife; she was born in Tennessee in 1847, and is a daughter of John A. and Martha Hail. Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and in politics Mr. Vaughn has always favored Democratic principles.
