Eli F. Hannah was born in Lincoln County, N. C., June 30, 1829, the son of John and Mary (Wells) Hannah, both natives of the same State. In 1830 the father came to Rutherford County, Tenn., but soon moved to Giles County. His occupation was blacksmithing. He died in 1879, and his wife in 1882. Eli F. was reared on his father’s farm, securing in youth a fair education. Soon after attaining his majority he engaged in mercantile pursuits, but after one year returned to the farm on Craw Fish Creek. Here he farmed and worked at blacksmithing until 1882, when he removed to his present place. He is successful in farming and stock-raising. In 1857 he married Miss Mary O., daughter of Hardy and Nancy (Compton) Willeford, who has borne him five children, four still living, viz.: Sallie R. (wife of E. C. Locke), John W., James H. and Clinton C. The other child, Mary A., died in 1874, aged four years. Politically Mr. Hannah is a Republican, and himself and family are members of the Christian Church. He is recognized as one of the county’s most respected and substantial citizens.
