Joseph H. Russell, druggist and postmaster at Centreville, Tenn., is a Tennessean by birth, born in Hickman County, Tenn., June 5, 1853, son of F. B. and Hester (English) Russell. He resided on a farm until 1882, when he engaged in the steam-boat business, which he continued for two years. He then came to Centreville, where he has sold drugs since February, 1886. He was commissioned postmaster of Centreville, and was married November 25, 1875, to Mary E. Jones, who died February 8, 1879. Her two children—Leta and Omer—died before she did. His second marriage occurred December 24, 1881, to Nellie Grimes, a native of Hickman County, born in 1858. They have one child—Henry. Mr. Russell is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote for Samuel J. Tilden. Mr. and Mrs. Russell are members of the Christian Church, and he is of English origin. Our subject’s parents were born in Williamson and Maury Counties, Tenn., respectively. The father was born in 1821, and his parents were from Virginia.
