Matthew Marcrum is a son of Henry and Mica Marcrum, of North Carolina, and was born in Gibson County, Tenn., September 25, 1836. He has followed the occupation of farming from boyhood and his early education was secured in the common schools. He has been quite fortunate in whatever enterprises he has engaged in, and by his industry is now the owner of 113 acres of fertile and fairly well improved land. He has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since 1870, and December 28, 1858, was united in marriage to Sophronia Huckeby, daughter of Thomas and Sallie Huckeby, of Gibson County. They have six children, two daughters and four sons: Harriet A., James L., Ada, Benjamin T., Emerson and one infant son. Mr. Marcrum is a Republican and of English descent.
