Sydner B. Salmon, farmer and miller of Fayette County, Tenn., was born in Halifax County, Va., April 5, 1830, and is a son of Basdell and Bashaba (Ricketts) Salmon, who were also natives of Halifax County, Va. The father was a tailor by trade and died in Virginia in 1835. In 1840 our subject moved with his mother to Tennessee and located in Fayette County seven miles northwest of Somerville. He was the third of five children and after finishing his education commenced farming. In 1857 he purchased a farm in Fayette County and has been one of the most enterprising and prosperous farmers of the county; besides a large water-mill on the Loosahatchie River he owns 600 acres of good land. October 25, 1855, he was married to Miss Fannie Burtis, a native of New York, born November 24, 1833; two sons and two daughters have been born to them; one of each is dead. Mr. Salmon is a Democrat, and while he has never united with any church he is a strictly moral man, and exceedingly generous in his contributions to the church and charitable objects. Mrs. Salmon is a devout member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and is a woman of great piety.
