S. A. Miller, a farmer and old resident of the Third District of Fayette County, was born in 1823 in Virginia, and was one of eight children, six of whom are living. The parents were Simon and Martha (Rivers) Miller, both natives of Virginia. The father was born in 1790, and moved to Fayette County in 1833, being among the early and prominent citizens of the county, a farmer by occupation, and died in April, 1865. The mother was a few years younger than her husband and died in 1837. S. A. Miller was raised and educated at home. In 1849 he married Miss Lucinda S., daughter of Mathew and Mary (Looney) Rhea, both natives of East Tennessee and early settlers of Fayette County. Prof. Rhea, Mrs. Miller’s father, was a teacher in the academy at Somerville for many years, and one of the leading citizens of the county; her mother was a sister of Col. Robert Looney, of Memphis. Mrs. Miller was born in Maury County in 1826. Mr. Miller resides upon the same tract of land that his father settled upon when he moved to Fayette County, and he is one of the most successful farmers in the county, being greatly esteemed by all who know him. In politics is a Democrat, and is a moral, industrious citizen.
