Hiram C. Moorman, attorney at law at Somerville, Tenn., was born in Hardeman County, Tenn., January 31, 1842, and is the son of Robert and Martha E. (Morgan) Moorman, who were natives of Virginia and Tennessee. Our subject was raised on a farm. In 1858 he entered Bethel College at McLemoresville, Tenn., where he graduated in 1860 and then commenced the study of law, attending the Cumberland Law School at Lebanon, Tenn., until the war commenced, when he went into the Confederate service as a private in the Thirteenth Tennessee Regiment, and was afterward promoted to first lieutenant, then to captain, and afterward to adjutant-general, and at the close of the war was acting as inspector-general, of Cheatham’s division. After the war Mr. Moorman taught school a short time, then resumed the study of law, and was admitted to the bar in 1867, and in 1868 he located at Somerville, Tenn., and is now one of the most popular lawyers in Fayette County, having attained an eminent position in the legal profession. January 19, 1870, Mr. Moorman married Nettie, daughter of Thomas L. and Frances Armstrong of Fayette County, and has had six children, one daughter and five sons: Thomas A., Robert M., Hiram C., Marion R., Annie E. and Frances B. Mr. Moorman is a sound Democrat and a member of the K. of H. He is one of the leading citizens and able lawyers of Somerville.
