William Jackson, who resides and farms in the Sixth District, was born in Sumner County in 1834. His parents were Hugh and Elizabeth Jackson. His father was also a native of Sumner County, born March, 1810, was married there, and had seven children, only two of them now living. He moved to Dyer County in 1851, and farmed until he died, in 1861. Our subject’s mother was born in Sumner County, Tenn., and died in 1863. Mr. William Jackson was raised and educated in Sumner County, and in 1853 he married Miss Melissa, daughter of Calup and Jane Smith. Mrs. Jackson was born in Dyer County March 5, 1837, and died June, 1863. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson had two daughters: Mary R., wife of M. J. Butler, and Bellzora, wife of Marshall McCormack. Mr. Jackson moved to Dyer County in 1851. He owns 217 acres of land, and, with the improvements he is placing on it, it will soon be one of the most desirable farms in the county. February, 1865, Mr. Jackson married Martha Fuller. She was born in Dyer County December 28, 1845. They have four children: Laura, Fannie, Maggie and Bennie D. He has always been an energetic man, and has in addition to his farming dealt extensively in stock, buying and shipping it. He belongs to both the Masons and Odd Fellows, and is a Democrat now, but was formerly a Whig, and is a most worthy citizen of Dyer County.
