Samuel Young was born in Henry County, Tenn., June, 1855, and was one of a family of nine children, and son of Thomas and Elizabeth Young. His father was born in Dickson County April 15, 1811, and was married October, 1854, to Elizabeth, daughter of John and Sarah Homer. He is a farmer and resides on the line between Dyer and Crockett Counties. His mother was born in Hickman County March, 1818. Mr. Sam Young moved to Dyer County in 1869. In 1881 he located near Stokes, and commenced merchandising, which he continued for three years, and was instrumental in having a post office established at that place. During the last few years he has been farming, owning a well improved farm of 113 acres. November 2, 1872, he married Miss John E., daughter of W. J. Davis. Mrs. Young was born in Dyer County, September 22, 1855, and died October 3, 1884, and from this union five children are living: Laura, Wellimer, Warner, Elliot and Ethel. In 1876 Mr. Young was elected constable, and at the same time appointed deputy sheriff. He held the positions two years, when he resigned the office of constable, and was elected magistrate, which office he has ever since filled to the satisfaction of all. He is a Democrat, and takes an active interest in politics, and is a member of the Christian Church.
