Below is a family biography included in The History of Dyer County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. L. C. White was born in Bedford County, Va., in 1834. He was one of five children, but only two survive. He is now a farmer of the Sixth District. His parents were C. E. and Elizabeth White. His father was born in Virginia in 1808, married there, and in 1835 he moved to Tennessee, locating first in Madison County, then in Weakley and Gibson Counties, and in 1858 moved to Dyer County; was a merchant there; then began farming, and was afterward a boot and shoe manufacturer. He died in 1873. His wife was a native of Virginia, born in 1812, and died in 1856. Mr. L. C. White received most of his education in Gibson County. In 1858 he married Sarah P., daughter of John S. and Martha McGinnis. She was born in Dyer County in 1841. They have eight children: John C., James J., Henry B., Charley M., L. A., M. A., A. G. and M. L. Mr. White came to Dyer County in 1858, and was in the mercantile business at Newbern for his father for a couple of years; then commenced farming, and now owns a large farm two and a half miles south of Newbern. He is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote for Mr. Buchanan. Mr. and Mrs. White are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
