Dr. John A. Milam resides in the Seventh District of Dyer County, and is the son of Zachariah J. Milam, and was born in Henderson County, Tenn., in 1853. He was raised at home, and educated at the schools in the county. In 1877 he commenced the study of medicine, and after one year of study, in 1878, he entered the medical department of the Vanderbilt University, at Nashville, and graduated in 1879. He was a close student, and made rapid progress in his studies. After graduating he returned to his home, in Dyer County, and commenced practicing. In 1881 he located at the residence of S. Chitwood, where he remained until 1885; he then moved to T. S. Hendrick’s, where he has since resided, and has his office. Dr. Milam has been very successful, and the extensive practice he has secured is sufficient testimony of his ability as a physician, and his popularity as a man. He is a Democrat, and his first presidential vote was for Grover Cleveland. Dr. Milam is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
