Below is a family biography included in The History of Dyer County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. F. M. Boling, dry goods merchant of Dyersburg, Tenn., was born in Haywood County (now Crockett County), January 30, 1855. His father, Francis M. Boling, was born in what is now Crockett County, in 1828, and is a farmer by occupation. He was married to Sarah F. McFarland in 1853. She was born in the same State and county as himself, and is the mother of the following children: F. M., Victoria (Mrs. D. E. Love), Levi H., Edgar W., Allie, James and Isaac. In 1885 the father purchased a dry goods store in Dyersburg, and at the same time owned a grocery store in Friendship, Crockett County. In the spring of 1886 he sold his goods at Friendship, but still retains his interest in the dry goods store at Dyersburg. Besides this he owns about 500 acres of land and is one of Crockett County’s best farmers. His father, William Boling, was a Virginian, and was one of the pioneer settlers of Haywood County. Tenn. F. M. Boling our subject, was educated in Crockett County, and made his home with his parents until he was twenty years of age. In 1875 he began his career as a grocery merchant in Friendship, and in two months’ time added dry goods. In 1881 he established a branch dry goods store in Dyersburg, and a year later located in the town and opened a family grocery with J. B. Spradling as his partner. He sold his interest in this store the same year. November 22, 1877, he married Sarah Olivia Reamy, who was born in 1853. They have one child, Mamie, who was born November 27, 1878. Mr. Boling is an excellent salesman and is doing well financially in the dry goods business. He is a Democrat and is a member of the Masonic, I. O. O. F. and K. of H. fraternities. He is also a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and his wife of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
