D. C. Churchman, a farmer of the Sixth District, was one of eleven children, and was born in 1832, his parents being James and Mary A. (Bradberry) Churchman. His father was born in Jefferson County, in 1787, married, and lived there until 1857, when he went to Henderson County, and from there to Carroll County, and then to Dyer County. Mr. Churchman’s mother was born in Jefferson County in 1797, and died in 1845. He was educated at Lavina, Carroll County. In 1854 he married Miss Margaret A. Robinson, who was born in South Carolina, in 1834. They have four children living—Margaret F., Mary A. Robert and Joseph. In 1858 Mr. Churchman came to Dyer County, and located one mile south of Newbern. February, 1886, he disposed of that place and purchased another, two miles east of Yorkville, in Gibson County. During the past thirteen years he has been engaged in threshing. He has always been a hard working man, and a successful one, being deeply interested in the improvement of Dyer County. His first presidential vote was cast for James Buchanan. He is a Democrat, a church member, and has been a Mason for twenty-one years. Served four years in the Confederate Army, a part of the time in the quartermaster’s department.
