Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. WILLIAM REESE, retired, Etna, was born May 25, 1821, in Allegheny county, Pa., a son of William and Jane (Trunick) Reese, former of whom was a native of Wales, and by trade an iron-refiner; the latter was a native of this county, of Scotch and German descent. The subject of these lines was employed for fifty years in the iron-mills in Etna (now Spang’s mill), beginning in the old sheetmill at ten years of age, but since 1884 he has retired from business. His wife is Sarah A., daughter of Benjamin and Ann (Crawford) Powers. Benjamin Powers’ father came to this county from Greenbrier settlement, Va., at the close of the Revolution. He had been a soldier in that struggle, and was paid in continental money. He purchased two hundred acres near Etna, and paid for it with farm product. His five brothers were also soldiers in the Revolution, and all settled in this county except one. The family were among the oldest settlers in. the county. Mr. Reese is in possession of sixteen acres of the old home farm. He has a family of six children: Anderson, Benjamin F., Wesley J., Francis, Annie E. and Jennie. Mr. and Mrs. Reese and family are members of the Methodist Church; he is a republican.
