WILLIAM RAMSAY, merchant, Homestead, was born April 19, 1849, in Fifeshire, Scotland, a son of James Ramsay, a descendant of an old Scotch family. He received a common-school education, came to America at the age of nineteen, and became an engineer at Shafton, Pa. In 1881 he came to Homestead, where he opened a grocery-store, and, although he had no experience in the business, relying on his own native talents, he soon became one of the leading merchants of the town. He married Susan Stahl, who has borne him one son, James. Mr. Ramsay is a member of the R. A. and K. of P. He has always been identified with the republican party.
