Below is a family biography included in the History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania published in 1889 by A. Warner & Co.   These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. WILLIAM GALBRAITH STEWART attorney, Wilkinsburg, was born in West Middletown, Washington county, Pa., January 5, 1856. His grandfather, Galbraith Stewart, of Scotch ancestry, came from Carlisle to West Middletown over a hundred years ago. His son, bearing the same name, married Phoebe McKeever, and engaged in farming in early life. Afterward he dealt in wool, and did a private banking business at West Middletown. He moved in June, 1874, to Washington, Pa., where he resided at the time of his death; he died September 13, 1877, aged sixty-four years; his widow now resides in Washington. Four of their children grew up and one died in infancy. The eldest, Jannie (Acheson), resides in Washington, Pa.; W. G. is the second; Elizabeth Scott is unmarried, and resides in Washington, and Thomas A. is unmarried, and resides in Toronto, Ohio. William G. Stewart was educated at Washington and Jefferson College, and admitted to the bar of Washington county in September, 1880. He soon came to Pittsburgh, and was admitted to the Allegheny county bar in January, 1881. With Mr. T. S. Brown he formed the firm of Brown & Stewart. He is an adherent of the republican party, and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Wilkinsburg, where he has dwelt for the past four years.
