W. E. KOCH, superintendent Spang Steel & Iron company, Sharpsburg, was born in London, England, in 1848, the eldest son of Edward Koch, a banker of that city. He was educated at the University of Cambridge, England, at the school of mines in Freiberg, Saxony, Germany, and since the age of twenty has been prominently identified with the manufacture of steel. He emigrated to America in 1883, and traveled through all parts of the United States, having previously traveled through Europe and Australia. In 1886 he entered the employ of the Spang Steel & Iron company, as superintendent of the works at Sharpsburg, which position he still holds. Mr. Koch is a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Y. M. C. A. of Sharpsburg; politically he is a republican.
