ROBERT THEODORE HILL, secretary and treasurer of the P., C. & Y. R. R., was born in Pittsburgh, March 3, 1846, son of Robert and Mary J. (Delzell) Hill, natives of Ireland. His father came to Pittsburgh about 1825, and was a lumber-dealer; he died in September, 1877, aged seventy-three years, and his wife died in 1884, aged seventy-six years. They were members of the U. P. Church, and in the early days Mr. Hill was a member of the Pittsburgh council. Mr. Hill received his education in Pittsburgh, and in 1864 began clerking in a railroad office. In 1870 he was employed in the auditor’s office of the P., Ft. W. & C. R. R., and in 1882 resigned to accept the office of secretary and treasurer of the P., C. & Y. R. R., his present position. In December, 1884, he moved to Verona, where he now lives. He was married in February, 1865, to Mary J. Delzell, a native of Ireland, and daughter of William and Margaret Delzell. Her father died in 1861, aged fifty-three years. Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Hill. Three are living, named as follows: Willie D., Mabel and Jeanette. Those deceased are Clarence, Gertrude and Charles.
