PHILIP H. YOUNG, furniture dealer, Sharpsburg, the youngest child of Jacob and Elizabeth (Diehl) Young, was born in Germany, in 1846. John Jacob, his father, was a worker of wood in Rhein, Bavaria, Germany. Philip H., when eighteen years of age, left his native country, where he had learned the cabinet-making business, immigrated to America, and for a number of years followed his trade in Pittsburgh. In 1871 he came to Etna, in which year he married Minnie C. Hieber, daughter of Daniel Hieber. Mrs. Young was the mother of six children, three of whom are living. She dying, Mr. Young next married, in 1883, Emma C. Boertzle, who has borne him three children. In 1880 he commenced his present business, which has steadily grown under his careful management, and he now enjoys a large and lucrative trade in his line. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and R. A. In religion he is a German Presbyterian, in poltics a republican.
